YPDC- UOL Chapter arranges 1st National Policymaking Competition

The Young Peace & Development Corps (YPDC) UOL Chapter with supervision from the School of Integrated Social Sciences (SISS) hosted the 1st National Policymaking Competition from November 29 to December 1, 2019 at the Defence Road Campus. The competition aimed to apprise students about decision-making processes, improve their critical thinking and decision-making skills in real-time and give them a sense of participation as vital cogs of society.
The three-day event, saw 74 teams from more than 30 universities from across Pakistan compete with each other in making specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-specific (SMART) policy proposals in the domains of Security, Economy& Development and Environment.
On the day one of the event, Dr. Rabia Akhtar (Director, Center for Security, Strategy and Policy Research & HOD SISS) and Mr. Ahmed Butt (Director YPDC) delivered motivational pep talks on policy-making, elements of national security, economic growth and environmental protection aimed at preparing competing students for the showdown on the final day.
Thirty teams gave their policy presentations on the third day and after a tough screening process, one team from each module was selected for the final show that was presided over by Mr. Ahsan Iqbal (former Interior Minister) as the chief guest.  Dr. Rabia and Mr. Naseem Achakzai (Executive Director, Center for Sustainable Research and Practice), as the adjudicators of the competition selected the team from the Environment module as the winner of the race.
The winning team received an award from the chief guest who emphasized the need for the youth to harness their potential by treading the path of education and knowledge for peace and prosperity of the country during his speech.
The YPDC UOL Chapter led by Mr. Ahsan Javed, a 7th semester student at SISS, University of Lahore, aims to push forward the national mission of YPDC of harnessing and using the talent of Pakistan’s vibrant and burgeoning youth in the productive and innovative ventures.
