UOL ranks 268th globally, 05th countrywide on sustainability

UI GreenMetric World University Rankings on Sustainability, an initiative launched in 2010 to promote sustainability in higher education institutions worldwide, recently listed The University of Lahore (UOL) among the top 300 Universities of the World, 5th in the Country and 1st in private sector universities of Pakistan for its’ commitment to the greening of Campuses and putting in place environment friendly policies that support sustainability.

The University improved on its 2020 performance by ascending 59 stepladders from 327th to 268th position. UOL and other universities from within and outside Pakistan were assessed on the six (6) elements namely: setting and infrastructure (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste (18%), water (10%), transportation (18%), and education (18%). UI GreenMetric Rankings allow universities to share their experiences and best practices on sustainability issues online, as well as to measure their sustainability policies and hence, facilitating a comparison between them.

Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran (Rector, UOL) applauded the performance saying: “Such performance could not be registered without the commitment, hard work and dedication of each member of the UOL family. The results demonstrate the contributions the University is making to the communities it serves”.

Since its establishment, the UI GreenMetric has been increasingly recognized as a prestigious ranking system and has been used by participating universities to benchmark and do continuous improvement in all aspects of sustainability.
