UOL inaugurates Microsoft Student Partners Community

The Microsoft Student Partners (MSP) Community-UOL was officially inaugurated on October 13, 2020 at UOL’s Defence Road Campus, Lahore. The inauguration aimed at spearheading the name of Microsoft among the UOL students and to break various barriers of departmental differences. 

Mr. Muhammad Junaid Iqbal (MSP President) and Mr. Hamza Azeem, (Membership Head) kicked off the event with speeches in which they gave a brief history, achievements of the eight months since inception and the future ambitions of the community. They highlighted the ongoing efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic and the balance act between maintaining social distancing and the newly created community. 

Mr. Iqbal in his capacity as President said, “Around 15,000 participants were involved over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, international guests were invited through virtual platforms that provided the opportunity for the students to learn skills, knowledge, information, application and skills”.

Mr. Aaron Blum (CPM Microsoft) was the Chief Guest and attended the event online based in Washington DC. He expressed his appreciation to the efforts of MSP community saying:  “I wish to send my sincere thanks to the MSP-Community, UOL for your enthusiasm and dedication to the program and to the community. The student program is thriving in Pakistan because of the hard work of you and your peers”, he added.

Madam Ammara Awais (Director OSA), Dr. Yasir Niaz (Patron MSP), Mr. Muhammad Atif (Head of Computer Sciences & Information Technology) also graced the event with their presence. 

Ms. Ammara expressed her fondness for the community and appreciated the efforts made by the team. She said: “What we learned growing up was the generic Microsoft where we learnt spreadsheets amazed by the new technology but having such a platform in your own university, you’ll get to learn a lot more advanced from what was taught in secondary schools”.

The event ended with a musical performance by the Music Society followed by the cake cutting ceremony.
