UOL and Gwadar Authority Conjointly Host 1st Pak-China Youth Conclave

The UOL’s Center for Sustainable Policy Research and Practice (CSRP) and Gwadar Development Authority, co-hosted the First Pak-China Youth Conclave in Gwadar, Balochistan, on August 23-25, 2019, with the aim of building a platform to boost up ties between the two countries and urge young people to exploit the opportunities of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The maiden event deliberated upon the different challenges, opportunities, investments potentials and the development of joint youth policy. Student delegations from prominent universities from both countries including University of Lahore, Tsinghua University of China, University of Tubat and Cadet College Omara attended this summit.
CM Balochistan, Mr Jam Kamal Khan was the Chief Guest of at the inauguration ceremony of the conclave that was also graced by the presence of the renowned personalities such as  Zmarak Khan Achakzai (Agriculture Minister Balochistan), Noor Muhammad Dummar(Minister PHE),  Mr Zahoor Buledi (Finance Minister Balochistan), Ms. Zubeida Jalal (Federal Minister of State for Defense Production), Naseem Khan Achakzai (Executive Director CSRP), Mr Shahzaib Kakar (DG, GDA), Mr Naseer Khan Kashani(Chairman Gwadar Port Authority) and Mr Zhang Baozhong (Chairman China Overseas Ports Holding Company).
Capt. (Retd.) Tian Shichen (Vice President of the Grandview Institution (GVI)) and Ms.  Ying Song (Manager, Center for Industrial Research) discussed the four transitions that are required in the further implementation of the BRI (Belt and Road Initiative) and China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (signed in 2006 between Pakistan and People’s Republic of China) respectively during the first session of day one.
Later, the Executive Director CSRP, Mr Achakzai moderated a plenary session on CPEC, SDGs and opportunities for youth with Ms. Maryam from Gwadar, Yu Xiao, Junyan Chen, Wang Jingshu and one Pakistani alumni of Tsinghua University Mr Imran as panelists.
In discussions also was the Gwadar Master Plan addressed by Ms. Bushra Rind (Adviser to CM Balochistan and Parliamentary Secretary on Urban Development) and Mr Shahzeb Kakar (Director General Gwadar Development Authority) who also shared the importance of international summits and conclaves in the growth of Gwadar.
Vice Admiral (Retd.) Iftakhar Ahmad Rao held a plenary session on CPEC and maritime security challenges and its importance which was followed by a keynote speech by Mr Abdul Razzaq Sabir (Vice Chancellor of Turbat University) on CPEC and People of Gwadar. Mr Asim Tiwana (Director General Gwadar Port Authority) gave keynote speech on Gwadar Port and CPEC and Mr Waqas Iqbal discussed the Social Impact of Security: Traditional v. Scientific Security- A case of Gwadar City in a plenary session.
Apart from the conference, excursion trips to Bahria Grand Mosque, Eiffel Tower, Lahore Museum, Wagah Border, Walled City of Lahore and Governor House were arranged for the delegates.
