The UOL, Balochistan Govt co-host 3rd Int’l Youth Summit 2019

The International Youth Summit Lahore (IYSL), is the largest platform in Pakistan that brings the diversity of youth from all around the world at one place every year since 2017. Under the universal theme of global commitment, the UOL’s Center for Sustainable Research and Practice (CSRP) and Balochistan Govt. with sponsorship from Allied Bank Limited and Lake City, successfully organized the 3rd International Youth Summit Lahore (IYSL) 2019 at the University of Lahore and Quetta December 2-8, 2019.
The summit focused thematically on technology, development and economy as the rudiments of the discussion.  Around 80 delegates from more than 30 countries across the world participated in the 7-day event that was divided into academic sessions, social and networking activities, cultural night, musical performance and excursion trips.
The Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Dost Muhammad Mazari was the chief guest while Senator Mirza Khan Afridi, MNA Syma Nadeem (Federal Minister of Interprovincial Coordination Ministry and Parliamentary Secretary for IPC), Senator Sana Jamali, Sardar Farooq Aman Ullah Dareshak (MPA Punjab Assembly) and Mrs. Farzana Raoof (Director Sports, the UOL) were the guests at the opening ceremony.
CSRP Executive Director, Mr. Naseem Khan Achakzai welcomed the participants and briefed them about the necessity of youth engagement and community mobilization. The chief guest Mr. Mazari appreciated the organizers for holding such a fruitful event and called for more similar events in the country. He also appreciated the youth for giving their consent to visit Pakistan. “I am impressed by your decision to come for this summit. You have broken the stereotypes about this land,” Mr. Mazari added. Ms. Nadeem addressed the participants Pakistan’s efforts towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Academic sessions covered salient global issues
The first panel discussion of the summit was on “Building Green Business for the Sustainable Growth” by Lina from Jordan, Angella from Italy and Cho Mar from Myanmar followed by two presentations given by Camila Ciok (Social Activist from Poland) on “Personality Introspection” and Mr. Wajahat Mahmood Qazi (an expert on Cognitive Robotics) on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the importance of robotic technology as future of the world”.
The summit also discussed the Trade Wars and their Impact on the Global Economy; Youth development and Hong Kong Crisis; Sustainable Tourism Development; Sustainable Development: Debt-Trap Diplomacy; Ending Religious Violence; Russia’s Role in Sustainable Development; Tourism Instrumentalism in Nepal; Environment Friendly Development in Pakistan; the advantages of Instagram and the effective use of internet for the cause of sustainable development; Agile Methodology and the Green Technology.
Experiences beyond academic talks
After the discussions, the participants visited Wagha border and enjoyed music performances of the Music Society at UOL. Another leisure moment was the dinner arranged at the Lake City restaurant where Dr. Mughees Baig (Dean University College of Dentistry), Dr. Shahid Malik (Pro-Rector, Health Sciences) and Mr. Abdul Rauf (Executive Director of Lake City restaurant) addressed the delegates and appreciated their full participation.
The delegates visited the Chinese Company named Haier and observed its operations. Moreover, a cultural night was also arranged where delegates wore their cultural dresses and enjoyed the cultural dances of Pakistan.
The IYSL delegates also paid a courtesy visit to the Pakistan Parliament House, Islamabad and interacted with the Leader of the House Senate, Syed Shibli Faraz, Senators and MNAs. The Director Protocol, Ms. Shahana Iftikhar briefed the delegates about the Senate and its proceedings. As a gesture of appreciation, the delegates also had  a scrumptious lunch at Des Pardes, Islamabad.
The IYSL participants explore Balochistan
The participants of IYSL visited the Command and Staff College and Southern Command, Quetta where the high military officials explained the history and achievements of the College and the history and present status of Balochistan.
The CM Balochistan, Mr. Jaam Kamal Khan hosted the delegates at the dinner where he highlighted the strength and challenges of the region. He also appreciated the efforts of the Director CSRP Mr. Achakzai and the Senator Sana Jamali for organizing this fruitful event. All delegates were gifted with Balochi Shawls. During the Balocshiatan visit, the delegates were served with traditional lunch at CM Rest House and also visited Bolan Market.
Youth engagement emphasized at the summit closure
Fazeel Asghar (Chief Secretary Balochistan) was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony.  Maj. Gen Dilawar (Chief of Staff Southern Command Balochistan), Zamrak Khan Achakzai (Minister for Agriculture Balochistan), Abdul Khaliq Hazara (Minister for Youth and Sports) and other officials of Government of Balochistan and Parliamentarians also graced the event with their presence.
The Director CSRP appreciated the role of youth regarding the current global issues. He stressed on the importance of flow of ideas across borders through global youth engagement and thanked the participants for choosing the IYSL platform in Pakistan. He said, “This summit is a new beginning for something more positive and innovative”.
Minister for Youth and Sports talked about the youth engagement and global prosperity while Maj. Gen. Khan expressed his views about the importance of youth summits in the preparation of future leaders. The Senator Jamali pledged commitment for similar events in the region. The certificates of participation were presented to all the delegates in a joyful mood.
