RULES AND REGULATIONS

General Policy

Users are expected to observe the following rules while using the library. Any violation of these rules will incur appropriate disciplinary action.

  • Leave your personal belongings such as handbags, briefcases, etc., outside the library entrance, on your own responsibility however, lockers facilities are also available.
  • Submit any book or object for inspection, when requested by the library staff.
  • Do not write, underline, or mark on any book. Library books are carefully examined on return and the borrower will be held responsible for the damage.
  • After reading, leave books on the table. Please do not shelve the books because library staff is available for this task.
  • Complete silence should be observed except for brief and subdued talk with the library staff.
  • Drinks and eatables are not allowed in the library.
  • Keep your mobiles off within the library premises.
  • Make sure you have provided the correct e-mail address while filling your library membership form.
  • Report lost books or other materials to the library immediately to stop overdue fines.
  • In case of lost Library Card, please immediately report to the circulation staff so that your membership is temporarily blocked to prevent misuse of the Library Card. Once you get a replacement, please inform the circulation staff so that your memberships can be re-activated.
  • Ask for help from library staff if you are unable to find your required material.
  • While returning library books or other materials at the Circulation Desk please ensure that the circulation staff has returned the book(s).

General Loan Rules

Books are to be issued to all entitled patrons for a maximum period noted against each. The book can however be renewed at the expiry if it is more required by the borrower. It is advisable for all the patrons not to exceed the prescribed time limit.

  • Only Library members can borrow library materials.
  • No books or library materials may be brought out of the library until the loan has been recorded. 
  • Library materials borrowed must be returned on or before the due date.

Borrowing Rules

  • Valid identification card is necessary to borrow library materials.
  • Books borrowed by any patron can be reserved.
  • Reserved books may be collected within 3 days from the circulation desk.
  • Book(s) borrowed by any patron can be renewed for a period of 14 days as long as the same is not reserved by another patron.
  • Non-circulating materials such as reference books, CAD collection, CD-ROMs, annual reports, current journals and newspaper archives, audio/video materials, textbooks, and research projects cannot be borrowed.
  • Non-circulating materials can only be used within library premises.
  • Any of the borrowed library materials are subject to recall as and when needed.
  • If the patrons misplace any library material and are unable to find, he should report at the circulation desk immediately to avoid overdue fines.
  • Any of the library materials not returned within 30 days after the due date will be considered as lost.

Library Fines 

Certain fines are charged for overdue (not returned on time) library materials. This is an effort to provide patrons an equal opportunity to make use of library materials and to maximize the sharing of library collections.

  • Overdue fine is charged from the first overdue date/day.
  • Overdue fine on general books would be Rs.10 per book per day.
  • Overdue fine on temporarily issued materials would be Rs. 50 per day.
  • Loss of library materials would be charged three times the current price OR replacement of the material(s).
  • In case of any disciplinary violations Rs. 500 would be charged on the first violation and Rs. 1000 on the second violation. In case of continuation of violations, the issue may be referred to the disciplinary committee.

Cyberspace Rules

  • Do not use the computers to do the following (1. Playing Games, 2. Playing Music)
  • Do not install or uninstall any program or service on any computer. This is only a preserve of the librarian.
  • If any device of the computer is not working, do not fix it kindly report at the reference desk or to the IT person in charge.
  • You are allowed to use the computer for a time allocated by the librarian. If need be you can be asked to other opportunities to use the computers.
  • Do not send jobs for printing, it is not allowed within the cyber. If necessary contact the librarians. 

Membership Policy

Students, staff, faculty researchers are entitled to library membership. The Students, faculty, and staff are required to fill a library membership form, attached a snap and copy of the university identity card, and submit it at the Circulation Desk in the library. The library membership forms are available from Library Circulation Desk as well as from the library website.
