The University of Lahore in collaboration with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) organized the 2nd Deans International Conference themed “Globalization of Engineering Education and Practice” at Serena Hotel Islamabad from October 14-15, 2019. The UOL was one of the Platinum Sponsors.
President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi and Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Fawad Hussain Chaudhary were the chief guests among more than 500 participants from all over Pakistan and 21 signatory member countries of Washington Accord. The Accord is an international accreditation agreement for undergraduate professional engineering academic degrees between the bodies responsible for accreditation in its signatory countries and regions.

The broad aim of this annual meeting is to connect with experts from signatory countries of the Washington Accord for enriching engineering education, accreditation framework and engineering profession. Curriculum bench marking and good practices, accreditation challenges and solutions, international accords/agreements, collaboration and linkages, innovative teaching-learning and assessment methodologies, engineering profession and practice were the themes under which papers were presented. Special emphasis was allotted to the outcome-based education, accreditation, high quality teaching, making engineering education relevant to the societal, and industrial requirements of adopting the best global practices.
International speakers included Prof. Elizabeth Taylor (Chair, Executive Committee Washington Accord of IEA, Australia), Prof. Megat Johari Megat Mohd Noor (Malaysia), Prof. Dr. Kai Sang Lock (Deputy Chair, Executive Committee Washington Accord of IEA), Colin Smith (International Technical Director, WSP Project Qatar), Prof. Dr. Mark Dyer (Dean of Engineering University of Waikato, New Zealand), Prof. Ruslan B. Hassan (Malaysia), Stefan Weidner (Germany), Ir. Azlan bin Abdul Aziz (Malaysia), Dr. Christian Grosskopf (South Africa). Dr. Fazal Khalid (Chairman, PHEC) also attended this forum.
All the speakers presented latest ideas, trends and concepts which are shaping the world in terms of higher engineering education for 20-30 years ahead. The impact of latest trends and technologies, the skills required, the changes which would happen and the future state of engineering profession were also discussed. Academic institutions were advised to subject their students to the curricular that are relevant to the industry jobs’ market.
Shields were presented to the distinguished speakers and chief guests appreciate their attendance and presentations respectively. The organizers gave special tribute to the UOL for the tremendous support given in the arrangement of the conference.
