IEEE UOL Student Branch celebrated IEEE Day on October 29, 2020 at UOL Defence Road Campus, Lahore with the aim to introduce the society to the freshers and convey them the core objectives and opportunities in IEEE UOL Student Branch. The celebration was also intended to demonstrate the ways in which thousands of IEEE members in local communities joined together to collaborate on ideas that leveraged technology for a better tomorrow.
Over 200 people, including students, faculty members and volunteers in IEEE UOL STB participated in the event. Mr. Hamza Ihtisham (SAC Chair IEEE Lahore Section & Network Supervision Specialist JAZZ Pakistan) and Ms. Safoora Saleem Shahnazi (General Secretary, WIE IEEE Lahore Section) were the guest speakers.
Mr. Seif Uddin (Member IEEE UOL STB) and Ms. Rabia Suleman (Chair WIE, IEEE UOL STB) hosted the event. Mr. Saad Ahmed (Chair, IEEE UOL STB) inaugurated the event with a talk about the objectives and theme of IEEE Day 2020.
Mr. Ihtisham spoke on the ‘Influence of IEEE in the Transformational Journey from a volunteer to a leader and what is the key to discover yourself with the association of World’s Largest Organizational Unit’ while Ms. Shahnazi discussed the ‘Opportunities in IEEE Women in Engineering’.
For the entertainment of the audience, four competitions in the form of games and contests were also organized during the event under the supervision of Mr. Muhammad Arslan Shahid (Lecturer and Branch Counsellor IEEE UOL STB) and Ms. Saba Mehmood (Lecturer and Adviser WIE IEEE UOL STB).
The winner of each competition was awarded with gifts and prizes including IEEE t-shirts, IEEE pens, food vouchers and concert passes while Ms. Saba Zia (Assistant Professor & Former Adviser WIE IEEE UOL STB) presented an Internship Award to the student who stood 1st in all the competitions.
Later, Mr. Ihtisham presented a gift to Danish Tahir (a 3rd semester student) for being the best participant among the audience.
The event ended with the souvenir distribution among the guest speakers by Mr. Majid Ali (Lecturer EE) and Mr. Muhammad Umair (Assistant Manager Students Affairs EE Admin) followed by the cake cutting ceremony.
