UOL announces more scholarship to GB students

Mr. Mir Afzal Khan (Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, GB) paid a courtesy visit to The University of Lahore on October 9, 2020. He was hosted at an event graced by Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran (Rector), Mr. Nasir Mehmood (CEO Engineering Projects), Deans, HoDs, officials from Gilgit Baltistan and students from different departments and societies.

The CM thanked UOL administration specially Dr. Kamran and Mr. Mehmood for inviting him. “The purpose of education is to know Allah and His creation. People have reached to stars and moon; you should also work hard to reach there. We should not depend on others and it is education that can take us higher and higher”, Mr. Khan told to the audience.  “You have capable faculty here, who can train and guide you, I am proud of them. I even wish to take admission here as there is no age restriction in seeking knowledge”, he added. 

He also pledged full support of the Gilgit Baltistan’s government to UOL aimed at preparing the future pillars of Pakistan and announced a grant of rupees five lakh to the University in the same spirit.

On his part, the Rector appreciated the guests and told the students to always analyze nature and God’s creation as instructed in the Holy Qur’an. “Allah has repeatedly emphasized on quest for seeking knowledge. We need to respond to this call with full commitment”, he said. He emphasized on the value of science and empirical inquires saying, “advancement in the western countries is majorly attributed to huge investment in science and technology”.

While giving his opening remarks, Mr. Mehmood in a special way thanked the CM for visiting the UOL. “GB is my second home and I always enjoy staying there. The university has special attachment to GB students. We have some reserved seats in many professional programs for them and we offer the highest number of scholarships to them”, he said. 

He announced the scholarship opportunities for GB students in every department apart from UCMD. The eligible students will be nominated by the government of Gilgit Baltistan through CM. 

A short video portraying the immense beauty and diverse culture of GB was projected during the event. The audience was also thrilled by a cultural dance performance of the students from GB. 

GB is known as the capital of tourism that attracts millions of tourists every year not only from Pakistan but all around the globe. It has its own socio economic importance due to China Pakistan economic corridor (CPEC) along with the silk route. Gilgit is considered to be the safest zone of the country due to the tireless efforts of the administration of GB and armed forces of Pakistan.
