Dr. Munawar Iqbal makes it to Stanford University list of World’s Top 2% Scientists

Dr. Munawar Iqbal (Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, UOL) has been listed at 51st position in the list World’s Top 2% Scientists generated by United States’ Stanford University in December 2020. He is among the 81 Pakistani academics listed as the most-cited scientists in various disciplines.

This prestigious list, is compiled by a team led by Prof. John Ioannidis (Physician-Scientist, Writer and Stanford University Professor) bears names of 159,683 people from all scientific disciplines and Dr. Iqbal featured in the category of General Chemistry.  The selection of the list is based on big data extracted from Scopus i.e. largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.

All these authors have been selected on the basis of an international evaluation of their research papers and classified based on career-long citation impact until the end of 2019 as well as for their citation impact in a single year (2019).

Dr. Iqbal who joined UOL’s Department of Chemistry in 2016, associates himself with Prof. Dr. Paolo Fornasiero (Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and ICCOM Trieste Research Unit, University of Trieste, Italy) for mentorship and supervision.

He has received many prestigious awards, including Research Productivity Award from University of Lahore (2018, 2019 and 2020), Abdul Salam Prize from Pakistan Academy of Sciences in 2019, Research Productivity Award from Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (2013, 2018 and 2019), and Highest Impact Factor Research Article Award from Chemical Society of Pakistan in 2016. Dr. Iqbal is an author to 400 scientific papers and nine book chapters (current impact factor 750+, citation 9000+ and h-index 49).
