Embracing the patriotic spirit of the Azadi Month, UCMD celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day on the 2nd of August 2019. Students and faculty from MBBS and BDS both participated in this symbolic show of nationalism. The ceremony started with a short speech by Ammar Qasim, President CBS, who highlighted the importance of a greener future for Pakistan and how that would help in the improvement of general health in the country. This was followed by a march past of students, all whom donned the national dress in the colours of the Pakistani flag, amidst the sounds of various national and patriotic sings. Flags were carried by the class representatives of each year, while the parade was led by Abdullah Arshad of 4th year MBBS. The parade culminated at the flagpole, where Mr Awais Raoof, Chairman Board of Governors, and Dr Shahid M Malik, Pro-rector Health Sciences, hoisted the flag to the national anthem. Students and faculty also made pledges for a greener and healthier Pakistan.
