ADA, Pakistan & Aga Khan Trust for Culture Seminar & Roundtable: The Future of Heritage Aga Kahn University, Karachi,
On 19th October 2019, Architecture, Design & Art (ADA) convened a Roundtable Conference (on behalf of the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC)) with faculty members from schools of architecture from all over Pakistan at Aga Khan University, Karachi. The Roundtable discussed the needs and prospects in regards to cooperation between the AKTC’s Education Programme and higher educational institutions in Pakistan. The Roundtable was designed to explore the needs as per regards to the improvement of Architecture Education and the possible role of AKTC’s Education programme.
The University of Lahore, School of Architecture was represented by Awais Aqdus, a specialist in Architectural Heritage. There he discussed about potential pedagogies in architectural schools and resources which could be availed with the involvement of AKTC.
In Relation to this, a seminar titled “The Future of Heritage” was also conducted at the Aga Khan University, Karachi by ADA in collaboration with AKTC, which was attended by all the participating faculty members on 18th October 2019. The seminar focused on introducing the attendees to projects of the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme (AKHCP), especially in Pakistan. This helped them in understanding the values that drive urban rehabilitation projects, the basic conservation methodologies and adaptive reuse for heritage structures.
